  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Television pundits and former footballers Jamie Carragher, Neville and Roy Keane have taken a trip to Istanbul - the scene of one of Liverpool's greatest ever triumphs - as part of filming for The Overlap. The Reds came from 3-0 down in the 2005 Champions League final to beat AC Milan on penalties in a game long-since dubbed the 'Miracle of Istanbul.' Carragher returned to the Ataturk Stadium with former Manchester United duo Neville and Keane and decided to give his old pal Gerrard a call and reminisce about a very special time. Of course, Carragher couldn't resist revealing that he'd "brought a couple of mates along" which led to a sweary riposte from Gerrard: "Oh for f***'s sake! Roy you can stay were you are, Gary you can f*** off!"

  • WHAT WAS SAID

Carragher and Gerrard then went on to chat about the dramatic end to the game. The former defender said: "The last part of this that I remember is me and you stood there. Milan are there. And then [Andriy] Shevchenko walks up. I remember saying to you there's no chance he's going to miss, you're going to have it win it for us. What was going on then?"

Gerrard replied: "If I said I was calm and normal, I'd be telling you lies. So I'm thinking I have to take this penalty because, as you said, I thought he was going to bury his penalty. When I saw him trying to actually dink it I could not believe his decision to do that. For him to try and dink it was very ambitious, but I was just delighted that I didn't have to take the penalty."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The four players may have long since hung up their boots but the rivalry between the Liverpool and United stars appears as strong as ever. The 2005 win was the only time Liverpool duo Gerrard and Carragher got their hands on the European Cup as winners, while Neville lifted the famous trophy twice with the Red Devils. Keane was also part of United's winning squad in 1999 but famously missed the final due to suspension.

    WHAT NEXT

Liverpool are gunning for Champions League glory again this season. The Reds have won all three Champions League fixtures so far and face former midfielder Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen next. It's a different story altogether for Manchester United in Europe this season. The Red Devils are in the Europa League and have opened up with three consecutive draws.
