The McDermott brothers' have a history in Philadelphia. They were born in the city and Sean started his NFL coaching career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Tim also worked as the Eagles' chief marketing officer before joining the Union's front office as chief business officer. In 2019, Tim McDermott became Union President.
Thus it was no surprise to see Sean McDermott, the now Buffalo Bills head coach, in the stands during Philadelphia Union’s clash against Atlanta United Saturday.
“We try and get here once a year, we watch Wednesday nights maybe Saturday nights, Saturday afternoon and maybe even Sunday night. I mean the league is really growing and it’s a great place to be, great venue here and excited to be here tonight,” Sean McDermott said in a video posted by MLS.
The Bills coach also praise the athleticism of soccer players and how both his side and the Union attempt to do similar things in completely different sports.
“I’ll tell you what, these guys are super athletic and super fast, and it’s an entertaining game to watch in person and on television," he said. "And I mean there’s a lot that they do that’s a lot like us (NFL players) and we try and put a lot of pressure on the opponent and I see the same with the Union squad."
