Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell was wearing a Philadelphia Union kit during the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade. The running-back seemed happy to tell the world that he supports the Union, even giving them side a shout out, demonstrating his support for the city’s MLS team.

Gainwell’s support for the Union reflects a broader trend of cross-sport support among athletes in general. This extends beyond the NFL as NBA star Jimmy Butler is a known fan of the beautiful game and even picked his new number with the Golden States Warriors in homage to Lionel Messi and a few other footballers.
Beyond that, the Boston Celtics' Derrick White and Charlotte Hornets' Brandon Miller recently welcomed soccer stars Leo Campana and Wilfried Zaha to their respective cities

Philadelphia Union's 2025 preseason concluded on Feb. 14 after their friendly match against the University of South Florida. During their preseason, they've faced SK Slavia Prague and Aarhus Gymnastikforening, followed by CF Montreal, beating only the MLS side.
The Union will open their 2025 regular season on Feb. 22 with an away match against Orlando City SC.
