Man Utd boss warned he has 'too many bad eggs' at Old Trafford as Alan Shearer singles out Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho for criticism following Newcastle defeat

Newcastle legend, Alan Shearer, has said Manchester United lack 'characters' and have too many 'bad eggs' as his beloved side beat United.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer was hugely critical of the United players' application as they allowed Newcastle to stifle and punish them. The Magpies won 1-0 thanks to a goal from the impressive and dynamic Anthony Gordon who offered the United defenders little respite throughout the 90 minutes. Shearer was quick to point out the United players' mentality was to blame for their poor performance.

WHAT SHEARER SAID
On United's defensive woes, Shearer said: "In [Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot's] defence, they got no help whatsoever from [Alejandro] Garnacho and [Marcus] Rashford.
"Rashford didn't look at it at all - didn't look interested. It happened so many times. Newcastle created so many chances and they should have had many goals.
"For me, there are too many bad eggs in that Man United team. Too many bad attitudes.
"It's alright when things are going well for you, you can get your feet on the ball, play and pick your head up when things are nice and rosy.
"But, when it's not going for you, when you're a bit tired and you've got to roll your sleeves up, there's not enough characters in that team."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Shearer's scolding analysis of the United performance reflected United boss, Erik ten Hag's, own frustrations - with his frustrations often boiling over on the United touchline. An injury-blighted Newcastle were able to control the game and harrassed United into wasting possession and committing rash mistakes. Ten Hag was unable to give his team any inspiration and looked completely devoid of ideas.

WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED?
It is back to the drawing board, once again, for United this season who cannot seem to string any semblance of form together. Off-the-pitch attitude problems appear to be seeping into the attitude of the players on-the-pitch and results don't look like they will pick up any time soon. They face a struggling Chelsea side on Wednesday in what almost represents a must-win.
