Lauren James injury latest: Chelsea boss Emma Hayes provides worrying update on Blues' Player of the Season ahead of WSL title deciders against Tottenham and Man Utd

Chelsea face Tottenham on Wednesday night and travel to Manchester United on Saturday knowing that two wins will likely seal a fifth successive league title. They will go level on points with leaders Manchester City if they win that game in hand against Spurs but with a superior difference ahead of the final day, giving them a fantastic chance of triumphing.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes, whose 12-year spell at the club will come to an end after Saturday's final day, confirmed on Tuesday that she will be without January signing Mayra Ramirez and attacking midfielder Jelena Cankovic for the Spurs game though, and how much James will be involved is unclear, too. The England star has missed the last two matches with a foot injury.

Asked about James' fitness, Hayes told reporters: "Lauren's trained once in 18 days, so still having a problem with her foot. That's her reality. She's definitely not in contention to start tomorrow."

No Chelsea player has scored more goals in the WSL this season than James, whose return of 13 is only bettered by Man City star Khadija Shaw across the whole division.

James will hope she is still able to play a part from the bench on Wednesday and potentially more on Saturday if her situation doesn't worsen, especially with a title on the line.
