Gareth Bale to follow in former Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric's footsteps with shock takeover of League One club

League One side Plymouth are in talks with an an investment group regarding a potential takeover, according to The Telegraph. Bale has been lined up to front the US-based group in a bid to add some glamour to the bid. Many famous faces have invested in English football clubs in recent years such as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham, Tom Brady with Birmingham and Bale's former Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric at Swansea.

Plymouth Argyle chairman Simon Hallett has been searching for investment and revealed only last month that a bid had fallen through. The Pilgrims were relegated from the Championship last season and have just confirmed former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley as the team's new manager.

Bale hung up his boots in 2023 at the age of 33 after a glittering career that brought five Champions League titles with Real Madrid. He has since spent plenty of time on the golf club but could be set for a route back into football with Plymouth.

Talks are set to continue between the two parties, meaning fans will have to wait and see if Bale and Co. are set to invest in Plymouth and take on a new challenge with the League One side.
