FIFA 23: Top 15 best Ligue 1 players on new EA Sports game

The first player on this list is Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes. He has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in Europe in the last few years and he has retained his 82 rating from FIFA 22.

Like Lopes, Kevin Volland has also been given an 82 rating on FIFA 23. Although, considering he got nine goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 last term, he might feel aggrieved that his rating has been reduced by one.

In the last of the 82-rated players in Ligue 1, Dimitri Payet has received a boost of two ratings from FIFA 22. That is because he was excellent for Marseille last season with 15 goals and 13 assists across all competitions to help them back into the Champions League.

It cause some confusion in the summer when Leicester allowed Kasper Schmeichel to leave for a nominal fee. Nice were the side happy to pay for the veteran goalkeeper but he hasn't quite had the desired effect so far. He was 85-rated in FIFA 22 so it's a two-rating decrease for him.

Presnel Kimpembe is the other Ligue 1 player to be given an 83 rating on FIFA 23. He has become an important player for PSG in the last couple of seasons and, after they missed out on signing a new centre-back in the summer, his prominent role in the team is likely to continue.

One of Kimpembe's centre-back partners is next on the list as Sergio Ramos has been given an 84 rating. He was 88 rated in FIFA 22 but a lack of regular game time last season means he is nowhere near that level this time around.

The third PSG player to receive an 84 rating is Achraf Hakimi. He has been a regular fixture in the team since signing for the club last summer and he may feel that he is deserving of a slightly higher rating.

Only Kylian Mbappe managed more goals in Ligue 1 last season than Wissam Ben Yedder who netted 25 times in the league. For that reason, he might feel hard done by to only be given an 84 rating on FIFA 23, especially as he was the same rating in FIFA 22.

There is a sizeable jump between the 84-rated players and the players above. The first of those in the next bracket is Marco Verratti whose consistent brilliance has been rewarded with yet another 87 rating.

PSG have the luxury of two very good goalkeepers in their squad. There won't be many on FIFA 23 rated higher than Keylor Navas and he isn't even his side's number one choice!

The task of choosing between Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma is perhaps best shown in the FIFA 23 ratings. The Italian shot-stopper is the same rating as his understudy - it almost seems unfair that PSG have two keepers that are that good.

The third of the PSG players to be given an 88 rating is Marquinhos. He has rapidly established himself as one of the best centre-backs in world football and his rating certainly reflects that.

It certainly isn't hard to guess which players in Ligue 1 have been given a higher rating than Neymar. But, after his start to this season, that might not be a fair reflection. In his 10 games in all competitions, his record of 11 goals and six assists is absolutely mindblowing.

Lionel Messi isn't quite out on his own as the best player in FIFA 23 but there aren't any players with a higher rating. He still shows week-in week-out that, at the age of 35, he is still one of the very best in world football.

Along with Messi at the top of the charts is his attacking team-mate Kylian Mbappe. The FIFA 23 cover star continues to defy all expectations despite his relative youth. He already has 10 goals in his eight games this season.
