'Erik ten Hag wanted to pay €40m!' - Ex-Man Utd boss lobbied Red Devils to splash cash on striker who has scored just four league goals this season

Dutch journalist Vlaentijn Driessen made the comments to Vandaag Inside. Ten Hag was known to be a huge fan of Brobbey, who was valued at €40m (£34m/$46m) by the Dutch giants after scoring 31 goals over the previous two Eredivisie seasons. However, the 23-year-old has only bagged four in the league and eight in total across his 41 appearances in the 2024-25 season.

Brobbey's season kicked off in an inauspicious fashion, as the Dutch international didn't score until November. His lack of returns this term have seen his value dip, with Driessen suggesting Ajax would struggle to fetch more than €10m in the transfer market.

Driessen said: "Ten Hag wanted to pay another €40m for him, now they are not even paying €10m.”

Despite Brobbey's lean patch, Ajax find themselves in poll position to recapture the Eredivisie title. Currently boasting a seven-point lead over PSV, the young striker will hope to fire home the goals that clinch the club's 37th league title.
