Erik ten Hag tells Man Utd starlet Harry Amass he 'has to improve' as Red Devils boss gives verdict on teenager's eye-catching pre-season

The 17-year-old defender, who moved to Old Trafford from Watford last summer, is hoping to break into the Red Devils' first-team squad and make his senior professional debut in the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

Amass was included in Erik ten Hag's travelling squad for their pre-season tour in the United States and the youngster has delivered some eye-catching football in the friendly matches the club have played thus far. Ten Hag, however, believes the teenager still has a lot to improve and that his experience during the pre-season will help him to further progress.

Speaking to the club's official website after their 3-0 loss to Liverpool, the Dutch manager said, "I said already the other day: there is a potential, but he [Amass] has to improve. But I think in the last 12 days here on the tour, he has made big steps. He was really tested in defending, and he made a step forward, but there is still a long way to go."

United will now travel back from the US and will be next seen in action on August 10 as they take on rivals Manchester City in their first competitive game of the new season in the Community Shield.
