Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence after horror miss in AFC Champions League defeat to Al Ain as he insists Al-Nassr will 'find a way' to salvage season despite seeing another trophy route closed off

Al-Nassr crashed out of the continental competition after they went down 3-1 in a penalty shootout against UAE Pro League side Al Ain in the second leg of their quarter-final tie on Monday. While Ronaldo converted a last-gasp spot-kick in extra time to take the game to penalties, he also missed a sitter from three yards out after the Al Ain goalkeeper parried the ball directly into the veteran forward's path.

The 39-year-old took to Instagram to break his silence on the heart-breaking AFC Champions League loss, sharing a team photo from the match with the caption: "Thank you for your support. We’ll find a way to bounce back and come back stronger! Together, always!"

Manager Luis Castro bemoaned the team's defeat as he claimed "justice was not on our side" as Al-Nassr created numerous goal-scoring chances and were the more dominant side. Al-Nassr still have the Saudi Pro League - where they are trailing league leaders Al-Hilal by 12 points - and the Saudi Super Cup to play for in the final months of the season.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star will be next seen in action for his club on Friday as they take on Al-Ahli in a must-win league fixture.
