Christopher Nkunku set for Germany comeback as RB Leipzig striker transfer deal with AC Milan

According to Sky Germany, RB Leipzig and AC Milan have agreed on a €3m paid loan for Nkunku, with an option to make the France international's move permanent for €27m.

Nkunku joined Milan from Chelsea in August 2025 for €37m plus €5m in potential bonuses, but his spell in Italy has failed to live up to expectations. Having fallen out of favour during pre-season, the France international was left out of the squad for Sunday's Serie A opener against Torino. Negotiations are now in the final stages, with only minor details left to resolve before Nkunku can complete his return to Leipzig.

The move comes as Amorim continues a swift overhaul of the Rossoneri squad since taking over. Following an underwhelming campaign that saw the club miss out on Champions League qualification, the Portuguese manager has taken a ruthless approach to trimming his playing staff.

Nkunku managed just eight goals and three assists in 35 appearances last term, struggling to lock down a regular starting place ahead of Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic. With Goncalo Ramos also featuring in attack, Amorim decided that the former Paris Saint-Germain player did not feature in his long-term plans.

While Leipzig remain firm favourites to finalize the agreement, Newcastle United are keeping close tabs on the situation. The Premier League side have been in contact behind the scenes and could yet offer Milan a direct permanent sale, which the Serie A side would naturally prefer to clear his salary off the books.

However, Nkunku has made a return to the Bundesliga his primary objective, having previously scored 70 goals in 172 appearances during his first successful spell with Leipzig before moving to London.

With personal terms close to completion and both clubs aligned on the transfer fee structure, Nkunku is expected to travel to Germany in the coming days to complete a medical. Unless Newcastle make a dramatic late intervention, the forward's return to Leipzig will be official before the window shuts.
