Zungu aims dig at Sredojevic: 'Rulani has made Pirates a top team again'

Bafana Bafana and Amiens SC midfielder Bongani Zungu risked the wrath ofSouth African football fans by claiming that Rulani Mokwena has made Orlando Pirates 'a top team again'.

The mifielder tweeted shortly before the final of whistle of the Buccaneers' 2-1 win over Polokwane City on Tuesday night.

He went further to justisfy his comments, saying that Mokwena was the main man behind Mamelodi Sundowns' success.

The pair worked together for two years at the Chloorkop-based outfit before Zungu left for Europe.

Mokwena spent another season at Sundowns before joining the Sea Robbers as Micho Sredojevic's assistant.

However, while he admitted that he didn't know Sredojevic's contribution to Pirates' resurgence, Zungu maintained that he knew enough about Mokwena to make the statement and he firmly stood by his comments.

Zungu invited former teammate Keagan Dolly to the conversation when making reference to Sundowns' comments, but the Montpellier winger didn't get involved.

Zungu's comments certainly didn't go down well with a section of Pirates and Sundowns fans, who felt he was undermining both Pitso Mosimane and Sredojevic whilst at the same time giving Mokwena the credit he doesn't deserve.

A picture of Zungu and Mokwena went viral on social media not so long ago where the coach handed the France-based midfielder a full Pirates kit at his home in Johannesburg.

The photo sent tongues wagging that Zungu could return to South Africa to sign for the Buccaneers.
