Wakaso in 'minor' car accident while on his way to Ghana for Afcon qualifiers

Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso was involved in a car accident in Spain on Sunday morning while on his journey to Ghana for international duty.

The Alaves man, who was in action as the club stunned Real Madrid 1-0 in La Liga on Saturday, was on his way to the airport when the incident occurred.

The accident was, however, a "minor" one, according to a publication on El Glorioso's website, and, thus, resulted in no change of plans for the 28-year-old.

"Deportivo Alaves player Wakaso Mubarak has had a slight car accident this morning," the club announced.

"He is in perfect condition.

"The incident occurred this morning on a stretch of the AP-68 motorway when the player was heading to the Loiu Airport to travel to Ghana and join the national team.

"Wakaso resumed his journey to the airport normally minutes later."

Wakaso is among 23 players summoned by Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Sierra on October 11 and 15.

He has been given a recall since controversially withdrawing from the Black Stars for back-to-back games against 2018 World Cup-bound sides Japan and Iceland in May over a slash in bonuses.

He is expected to touch down in Accra on Sunday as Appiah's outfit begin training on Monday.
