Pitso Mosimane unperturbed despite Sundowns' MTN8 first leg defeat

Following their 1-0 loss to Cape Town City on Saturday afternoon, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was left to praise the Citizens and their coach Benni McCarthy.

The Brazilians lost to McCarthy’s men at the Cape Town Stadium in the MTN8 semi-final first leg clash through Taariq Fielies’ late goal.

Although, Mosimane was planning for the Caf Champions League final Group C clash set to be staged on Tuesday against AC Horoya, he was hoping to bag a win away from home.

Speaking after the match, the former Bafana Bafana coach said his men failed to remain focused but lamented debutant Mosa Lebusa's error which led to the goal.

“What a good game of football hey. That’s how football should be played. When you’re sitting at home you must see the passing game,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV.

“I think we should give credit to Benni (McCarthy) he has done well. Good brand of football, not to win at all costs. It’s beautiful. It’s good for our country to see young coaches coming up and play like this,” he added.

“But I’m not unhappy with my team. I think they came here to play. I’m okay with that. There’s only one big mistake we did hey. You can never ever leave Fielies free on a corner kick hey.

"But Mosa Lebusa is paying school fees. Welcome to the high level hey because one mistake... Without that ball there’s no issues. We created chances,” he continued.

“We hit the post here and there but I’m happy to see the Anthony (Laffor) goal hey. That’s an interesting one but Phillip Tinyani did well as the referee. He managed the game well,” Mosimane concluded.

However, the reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions will hope to secure a win against Benni McCarthy’s men in the second leg of the semi-finals at home on September 2.

Moreover, they are now preparing to face Horoya at home after a 2-2 draw in the match in Conakry, a win will seal their passage into the knockout stages of the continental club competition.

Meanwhile, in other Sundowns news, forward Bongi Ntuli is edging closer to a move to AmaZulu. 

The Durban-based outfit have confirmed that Ntuli is training with the club as they look to finalise a deal before the close of the July/August transfer window.
