Minnesota United FC has announced that Adrian Heath has been named the club's head coach. As originally reported by Goal, Heath will take control of MNUFC for its expansion MLS season in 2017.

Five steps Arena needs to take

The English coach was in charge of Orlando City for its inaugural MLS season in 2015, leading the club to a 12-14-8 record and missing the MLS playoffs by five points. Heath was fired midway through the 2016 season after the club got off to a 4-4-8 start.

“I firmly believe that Adrian is the best choice to lead this club into our first year in MLS and beyond,” MNUFC sporting director Manny Lagos said in a club release. “His experience in Orlando City, helping that organization grow and build the right way and the way he immersed himself in the fanbase and in the community was a critical factor in making this decision."

Heath led Orlando City through its relocation from Austin in 2008, and won two USL titles with the Lions before their move up to Major League Soccer.

“I've known Manny for a long time and he's always spoke so fondly about what's going on in Minnesota, and obviously when the job became available I spoke to Manny and jumped at the chance,” Heath said.

Minnesota United and Atlanta United will join MLS as expansion teams in 2017.
