Melbourne City fans slam Warren Joyce's 'boring' football after Bruno Fornaroli is axed again

Melbourne City fans have described their team's football under coach Warren Joyce as 'boring' in a statement released in support of star striker Bruno Fornaroli.

The Uruguayan marquee has been on the outer at City after being dropped by Joyce for last week's match against Brisbane Roar - a story first reported exclusively by The Covert Agent.

After Fornaroli's omission was again announced on Thursday reportedly because of issues with his skinfolds, City's main supporter group Melburnians released a statement criticising Joyce for the decision.

They also canned their coach for Melbourne City's style of football this season, pointedly remarking they were surprised fans were still turning up to watch.

"As the days roll on, we are witnessing unrest amongst fans unlike anything we’ve seen in the Melbourne City era," the statement read.

"And after watching our team’s woeful performance on Saturday against the Roar, we’re inclined to agree with the majority.

"As most of you have seen, or will see before Sunday, Bruno Fornaroli has been omitted once again by Warren Joyce, with reasoning that is vague at best.

"From a coach that specifically didn’t reinforce our attack in the off season, leaving our greatest striker and one of our best players ever out of the squad AGAIN is a humongous blemish on an already damp season with only 5 goals scored in 5 games.

"To say the quality of our brand of football is boring would be an understatement, it’s a miracle anybody turns up."

The City fans have also organised a protest during Sunday's match against Newcastle Jets - with the group imploring fans to follow their lead until mid-way through the first half.

"As an active support, what little of us that will be there on Sunday, Propose a sit down protest for the first 23 minutes of the game. Followed by a “Come on Fornaroli” chant as loud as we can be," the Melburnians said.

"It’s time for something different to happen. If the club doesn’t make this change, we fans are forced to motivate that change.

"It’s a dark time to be a City fan. But deep down we won’t ever stop loving this club."
