Relegation-threatened Super League side Melaka United will undertake a massive mid-season squad revamp, its deputy president Datuk Wira Yusoff Mahadi told Bernama.

And according to him, even star striker Ilija Spasojevic may not be safe from the culling, while head coach Eric Williams may be replaced.

"We are going to assess the performance of all players and also find out the problems faced by the coach.

"It may be that the players are not able to adopt to his coaching style, but personally I know Williams is a good coach. A decision will be made soon," said Wira to the press at the Malaysian FA (FAM) headquarters on Wednesday.

"A decision will be made by the end of the week. We feel Spaso's (Spasojevic) performance during the 0-3 loss to Felda United was not up to the mark and he missed a number of golden chances to score.

"We have listed a number of local and foreign coaches. But we will also speak to all the players to see what is the problem," he said.

Spasojevic joined Melaka at the start of the 2016 season, and was instrumental in their Premier League title and promotion-winning season last year, scoring 24 goals in the league.

However, life in the top tier this season is far from easy for the Mousedeers and the Montenegrin. They are currently in 11th place, in the relegation zone, having recorded only two wins, five draws and six defeats. Spasojevic meanwhile has only recorded three league goals, and in late April stepped down from his position as team captain.

Williams, who had been appointed to lead the side at the start of this season, meanwhile has been given a gardening leave since May 23.
