EPL Matchweek 5 wraps up with Manchester United on the road again as they head to King Power Stadium to take on Leicester City on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Leicester City are coming off their third straight Premier League loss, a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, even with playing a man up for most of the match due to a Conor Gallagher red card. Harvey Barnes scored in the 66th minute to cut the lead in half, but the Foxes could not get the job done.
After a disastrous start to the season with two losses, Erik ten Hag’s squad has turned things around with back-to-back wins. Bruno Fernandes scored the game-winner in the 55th minute to give Manchester United the victory, and they currently sit eighth in the standings.

Leicester City vs Manchester United odds are current as of Tuesday, Aug. 30, from BetMGM Sportsbook, unless otherwise noted.
Leicester City have gotten the best of Manchester United over the past two seasons, as they’ve walked away with eight points in four EPL matches and a 3-1 FA Cup victory over them.
Even with their recent struggles against Leicester City, Man United have been on a hot streak and enter the match as the favorites. Conversely, Leicester City have been on a cold streak.
Leicester City vs Manchester United Betting Tips
Manchester United need to ramp up their attack
Though the Red Devils have won two matches in a row, much more of the credit must be given to the defense rather than the offense. Man United only has four goals through four matches, with one being an own goal against Brighton.
With Cristiano Ronaldo subbing in from the bench, Manchester United has been missing a true striker, as Anthony Martial hasn’t proven himself yet, and Marcus Rashford doesn’t fit the bill. The new addition of Antony should give the attack more firepower, though it’s unlikely he’ll suit up against Leicester City.
Manchester United have been outshot in their last two matches, and though they’ve gotten away with two wins, that won’t be sustainable long term. The Red Devils need to put pressure on the opposing back line and pour on the shots.
Leicester City have to play with discipline
The Foxes have struggled this season, sitting at the bottom of the EPL table with one point. They have struggled to maintain a lead this season, and have often made costly mistakes.
Leicester City’s only point came against Brentford, in which they controlled the possessions, outshot them, and had a 2-0 early in the second half before allowing the Bees to mount a comeback. Against Southampton, Leicester City controlled the possessions and were up 1-0 before conceding two goals in the loss. And against Chelsea, they were up a player and still couldn’t walk away with the victory.
Something needs to be done before it becomes too late for Leicester City. It’s very early in the season, but things can snowball for them. Since being promoted in 2014, Leicester City have finished in the top 10 six times, including winning the Premier League in 2016. But if this trend continues, they’ll see themselves facing relegation.
Newcomers will be key to Manchester United’s success
Early in the transfer window period, Manchester United were criticized for their lack of signings. However, now heading into Matchweek 5, that has completely changed, as they’ve made plenty of moves to improve the squad.
The Red Devils improved the back line with the additions of Lisandro Martínez and Tyrell Malacia, the midfield with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, and now the front with Antony. This has forced ten Hag to drop a few of the mainstays, such as Harry Maguire and Fred, but it’s worked.
Manchester needs to be a culture change, and the newcomers are helping bring just that. If Man United want to return to the top of the table, they’ll need to keep the same lineup and get the new players fully integrated.
Leicester City vs Manchester United Prediction
Leicester City 0-2 Manchester United
The scoring isn’t there for United yet this season, but they’ve stepped up defensively, so this will be a defensive-centric match.
David de Gea will get his second-straight clean sheet as the back line for Manchester United hold firm. They’ll capitalize on a few chances, riding the momentum of their winning streak.
Leicester City vs Manchester United Best Bets
➕ Manchester United Moneyline (+105) at BetMGM Sportsbook
WAGER: 2 Units
I have Manchester United winning outright, and with them winning at plus-odds, this is a great bet to take.
Leicester City are at the bottom of the table for a reason, as they haven’t looked good all season long. Though they’ve controlled the ball in matches, they’ve made mistakes and haven’t been able to hold a lead.
The Red Devils come into this match hot, while the Foxes come in cold. Back Man United to win a second straight match on the road.

➕ Under 2.5 Goals (+115) at BetMGM
WAGER: 1 Unit
Manchester United have scored only four goals this season while Leicester City have scored six, with one being an own goal. Though the Foxes have scored a goal in every match this season, the Man United defense has looked stronger in the past two games.
The Red Devils held Liverpool to just one goal in their 2-1 victory and blanked Southampton last match. The back line looked strong and will only improve as the season progresses.
I have this game finishing 2-0 in favor of United, so the Under will just barely hit.
- Bet on Manchester United at BetMGM.
➕ Marcus Rashford: Anytime Goalscorer (+160) at BetMGM
WAGER: 0.5 Units
It’s clear ten Hag wants Rashford on the pitch as much as possible, given he has three 90s to his name this season. He already has a goal on the year, scoring against Liverpool, and he will continue to score.
Rashford is a versatile player, as he could play up front, on the wing, or in the middle and have success wherever he is placed. The scoring needs to be picked up for Manchester United, and Rashford will answer the call.
