The midfielder is in high spirits following her side’s 1-0 victory over Nigeria, but warned against complacency as they aim for a World Cup place

South Africa midfielder Jane Refiloe could hardly contain her emotions after her team defeated Nigeria 1-0 to go inch nearer a semi-final berth.

After a keenly contested first half at the Cape Coast Stadium, Thembi Kgatlana scored the winner in the closing stages of the game.

They face Equatorial Guinea in their next game on Wednesday and the midfielder feels the triumph over the reigning African queens will propel them to victory.

Also, she said that only the result matters and not who scores for the South African women’s national team.

“We won against Nigeria in our first game. It is a great feeling for us and it is also a motivation booster going into the next game because playing Nigeria is never easy,” Refiloe told Caf website.

“We have put that behind us and need to prepare for the upcoming game because there are still teams we need to play and make sure we get past them.

“What is important is the team performance and if the team win regardless of who scored, we celebrate together.

“Hopefully, I will work on my game and make sure I score one or two goals before the tournament ends.”
