The forward is in Germany but sent support to his countrymen who have seen the year start with political turmoil

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is back to scoring ways in Germany but still has North America on his mind.

The Mexico forward, who is a goal away from becoming the country's all-time leading scorer in international play, tweeted a message of unity on Sunday. Mexico has had a difficult start to 2017, with thousands taking to the streets to protest a rise in gasoline prices and new U.S. President Donald Trump signing an executive order to begin construction on a wall on the southern border.

"Mexico in my heart. Proud to be Mexican today and always. Today we're more united than ever. Viva Mexico!" Chicharito wrote on Twitter, a day after he scored for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in a defeat.

He went on to share a poem written by "his countryman" Jorge Mendez.

The text of the poem reads:

On the other side of the wall there are landscapes,
forests, seas and small corners where there is magic.

On the other side of the wall, there are passionate people,
hardworking, people who are not weak-willed,
people who work harder than hard.

On the other side of the wall there are murals,
buildings, colors, culture, talent, art, lyrics.

Genius.

On the other side of the wall, there are billions of flavors,
millions of dishes, thousands of textures,
hundreds of creations.

On the other side of the wall, there’s pure coolness,
awesome people who don’t want to screw over anybody else.

On the other side of the wall, who run
as though they are crazy and chase after their happiness every day

Mexico.

Mexico's next match comes against Iceland on Feb. 8 in Las Vegas, though Chicharito will not be called in, with the contest falling outside a FIFA window.
