Brisbane Roar will host Global FC in their AFC Champions League (ACL) qualifier next week after the Filipino champions defeated Tampines Rovers 2-0 on Tuesday.

Global made Filipino football history with their victory in Manila as goals from Ahamd Azzawi and Misagh Bahadoran saw the hosts become the first club from the Philippines to win an ACL match.

In fact, Global are the first club from their country to even play in Asia's premier club competition.

After a scoreless first half against Singapore's Tampines Rovers, Global - who were formed as a social team just 17 years ago - took control of the match from the hour mark at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Azzawi opening the scoring in the 61st minute after being set up by Bahadoran and the latter secured victory with a deflected shot 12 minutes later.

The visitors had a penalty late in the match but Global goalkeeper Patrick Deyto denied Khairul Amri.

Global's next test will be a trip to Suncorp Stadium on January 31 where they will face Roar, with the winner of that qualifier set to face Shanghai Shenhua with a spot in the ACL group stage on the line.

Tampines Rovers will compete in the AFC Cup - Asia's second-tier club competition - after losing in the ACL's first preliminary stage for the second straight year.

Roar have twice previously qualified for the ACL group stage in 2012 and 2015 but the one time they had to go through the qualifying stages they lost on penalties away to Thailand's Buriram United.
