Betting: Fulham look worthy favourites to secure final spot in Premier League

The amount of potential earnings attributed to the final of the Championship play-offs seems to increase exponentially each season as the riches of the Premier League become ever more enticing to those still in the hunt for promotion.

This season's edition seems to be no different and should be a fascinating one, with just five points seperating the four teams involved but the odds suggest there is a clear frontrunner for the prize.

dabblebet make Fulham the 13/8 (2.63) favourites to join Newcastle and Brighton in next year's top flight table despite them being the lowest finishers, but there's a good reason that Slavisa Jokanovic's men are so well fancied.

The Cottagers ended the regular season in incredible form, winning five of their last six matches to ensure a spot in the top six, and even as market leaders, they look worthy of support to continue their impressive recent run all the way to a victory at Wembley.

Let's examine the other candidates. Reading achieved third spot but are the 9/2 (5.50) outsiders of the four contenders and their away form is surely one of the main reasons for that. Jaap Stam's men have lost nine of their 10 away games against teams who finished 11th or better.

The aggregate score line of those nine matches is 32-5 and they face a daunting trip in the first leg. On Saturday they visit a Fulham side who thrashed them 5-0 back in December, so could well be faced with a huge task in the return fixture at the Madjeski Stadium, albeit they have the second best home record in the division but unless they can vastly overhaul that bout of travel sickness, it could be a campaign destined to end in disappointment for the Royals.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday are 5/2 (3.50) to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2000.

The Owls pride themselves on a staunch defence, and face a Huddersfield side who they've already beaten home and away this term so it's understandable to see the fifth placed finishers a tough bigger in the betting to achieve promotion at 3/1 (4.0).

Having conceded less than a goal per game on average this season, Carlos Carvalhal will expect his side to grind out a two-legged result against a team who don't boast a prolific attack, netting just 56 times and who somewhat limped to the end of the campaign, picking up 10 points from their final 10 matches.

Wednesday don't score many themselves, but that superior backline, as well as home advantage in the second leg could give them enough to secure a spot at Wembley.

In terms of the outright market though, Fulham look the bet at 13/8 (2.63). Yes, the price is somewhat shorter than you might expect but the results against their fellow play-off contenders are encouraging. Of the six games Jokanovic's side contested, they won four of them, drawing one and the only loss was a 1-0 reverse to Reading.

Slavisa Jokanovic

With the joint-best attack in the second tier (85 goals in 46 games) they have the firepower to blow anyone away and come into this high pressure environment playing the best football of any team in the league, including the two sides already assured of promotion.

What's more, they are managed by a man who knows what it takes to get into the Premier League. Jokanovic led Watford back into the top flight in 2015 before being replaced at Vicarage Road that summer.

That kind of experience could prove invaluable and at 13/8 (2.63) they look the best bet to triumph in this four team shootout.
