Wrexham get their man! Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side set to win race for Reading striker after splashing out on 'multi-million pound' transfer

According to the Reading Chronicle, Smith has opted to make the move to Wrexham in what will be a 'multi-million pound fee'. The report adds he should sign for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's League One promotion chasers before the window shuts on February 3.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has called on the club's owners to make more signings to boost their hopes of securing a third-straight promotion and now they are set to secure a forward who is a proven scorer at this level.

Smith, 26, has hit double figures in League One for three seasons in a row, the most recent of which was at Reading and the two campaigns prior to that were for Cambridge United.

Third-placed Wrexham are next in League One action on Saturday away to relegation-threatened Crawley Town. It remains to be seen if Smith will be a Wrexham player by then.
