Wrexham plan blockbuster £4m bid for veteran striker as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney prepare to offer historic deal

Reporter Alan Nixon has revealed that Wrexham are willing to pay around £4 million ($5.3m) for Moore, almost as much as the new club record £5m ($6.7m) it took to sign Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest. As well as a big transfer fee, the Wales international could be offered significantly more than his £30,000 ($40,000) weekly salary at current club Sheffield United to make him one of the Championship's biggest earners.

Wrexham need to boost their squad with quality that can cut it in the Championship. Signing Ryan Hardie from Plymouth earlier this summer was a step in that direction, with the Scottish striker netting 22 times at this level over the past two seasons. But more is required and Moore, at his best, has been a 20-goal striker in the second tier - numbers he achieved with Cardiff City in 2020-21. Signing the soon to be 33-year-old, although it would be a popular move bringing in a Wales international, is also a gamble on what is expected to be a big contract due to his age and lack of goals last season - just six for Sheffield United in an injury-hit campaign.

Wrexham share the goals around. No single individual last season scored more than nine in all competitions, but six different players netted at least six times. The top scoring striker from 2024-25 still at the club - January signing Sam Smith - scored seven times in 19 appearances after arriving from Reading, but has only made eight Championship appearances in his entire career, and not since 2018.

Wrexham are still weighing up more signings than just Moore, with manager Phil Parkinson confirming that an ambitious approach for ex-Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has at least been discussed internally. But time is running out to have extra additions in before the start of the season, which opens against Southampton on August 9.
