Revealed: When Florian Wirtz will complete blockbuster £116m Liverpool transfer with medical scheduled

Liverpool have agreed a stunning £116m deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Wirtz, bringing an end to one of this summer’s biggest transfer sagas. The £100m upfront fee and £16m in add-ons mark a club-record outlay and could break the British transfer record if all bonuses are triggered. Wirtz had long been tracked by Bayern Munich but made clear he favoured a move to Merseyside.

Bayer Leverkusen were initially holding out for €150m (£128m/$174m), but the Premier League champions stood firm and ultimately struck a compromise. With his contract at Die Werkself running until 2027, the Reds wanted to get the deal done early and have moved quickly to bring the 22-year-old in before the start of pre-season.

The German will sign a five-year deal that ties him to Liverpool until 2030. As per The Athletic, the 22-year-old is due to arrive in the United Kingdom later this week and will undergo his Liverpool medical on Friday, and once completed, the official announcement from the Merseyside club could come shortly after.

Liverpool will aim to integrate Wirtz swiftly into Arne Slot’s plans, with the German playmaker likely to feature prominently in their pre-season tour. The Reds will be hoping to have a strong start to their 2025-26 campaign as they look to defend their Premier League title and do better in all other competitions than they fared in 2024-25.
