"Well, my dad told me that he had leukemia and he was in hospital," the centre-back told the Men In Blazers podcast. "Sadly, he died two days later. Because it happened so quick, it was such a shock, but when you go through something like I say try and turn a negative into a positive and if it can help people.
"I've had lots of people come up to me and say thankfully: 'It made me go and get checked, I don't want to see my boy in the same situation you're in'. It's powerful. I'm grateful that hopefully it has helped people along the way."
