Vincent Kompany 'emotional' about Kingsley Coman departure as Bayern Munich grant French winger wish to join Al-Nassr

Bayern are preparing themselves both mentally and tactically, as Coman is close to completing his move from Germany to Saudi Arabia. Bayern have reportedly accepted €30 million (£26m/$35m) for the winger, and he is scheduled to fly to Riyadh to complete his medical. Coach Kompany shared his feelings of being 'emotional' at the loss of a player like Coman but said the club has to understand the player's decision as well.

The 29-year-old spent two years on loan at Bayern before permanently joining the German club in 2017. In the 10 years spent at the club, the winger played 339 games, scoring 72 goals and registering 71 assists. He helped the club to win eight Bundesliga titles and the prestigious Champions League prize in 2020. 

Speaking to media in a press conference, coach Kompany said: ""When such a successful player leaves the club, it's always emotional. You also have to understand what he wants. We have a lot of respect for what he's done. From my point of view, the priority is the players who are there."

Sporting director Christoph Freund further added that the transfer is in its final stages, adding: "It's in its final stages. He shaped FC Bayern. It's a loss from a sporting perspective. It was a process. There were many discussions, a lot of respect, which is why these discussions were made possible."

With Coman's and Leroy Sane's departure, and Jamal Musiala's injury, the club is lacking the necessary depth. The coach claims the current situation at the club is that "the quality is still high but the quantity is low," making it clear that the reigning champions will have to sign a player to bolster their frontline. The German club will have to put their feet to the pedal as the Bundesliga kicks off in a week.
