  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Keane doubted the England international's impact as he returned from injury ahead of the match against Manchester United this month. After the attacking midfielder scored the winning goal, he signalled his critics in the celebration and hinted it was a nod to the ex-Red Devils star after the game, saying: "Just a little bit of outside noise wasn't there this week. People have their opinions. I wanted to do my talking on the pitch."

    Maddison made it clear that Keane was the target when he posted a TikTok video showing Keane's comments before a replay of the goal and his celebration, and the former Ireland captain has responded in good spirits.

    Asked by Gary Neville for his thoughts on the celebration, Keane said on The Overlap podcast: "Good on him, yeah. Absolutely. No problem. I still go to what I said, I don't think he does enough of that. But when he scored, I was at home with my cup of tea and I went: 'Good on you'. No problem. If people have a go at you, you answer them back. I was hoping he was going to do the same the other day but he was a sub against Ipswich, so..."
