USMNT Transfer Preview: Which Americans Abroad Could Move Before Friday's Deadline?

UPDATE: He has to do something, right? Through two games, Turner hasn't even dressed for Nottingham Forest, who have very clearly left him as their No. 3. For a player who wants to remain the USMNT's No. 1, that simply isn't an acceptable situation.

Nottingham Forest, though, have reportedly turned down multiple loan offers for Turner. Teams in the English Championship and the Bundesliga have inquired, but Forest prefers to complete a permanent sale of the goalkeeper in an effort to recoup some of the $9 million fee the club paid for Turner last summer.

Not only does Turner need a reversal of fortunes at the club level, he also must make a statement to Mauricio Pochettino, who has reportedly agreed to become the next USMNT coach. With the MLS transfer window closed, though, options are a bit limited. If Turner is to move, he'll have to stay in Europe.

Turner's U.S. starting spot is on the line and it ultimately could come down to what he does in these next few days or, perhaps, what he doesn't do.

UPDATE: On Tuesday, Lyon confirmed that the club has signed Tessmann from Venezia, with the midfielder completing a five-year contract with the French giants.

It's a deserved move for the FC Dallas product, who was the star of the show in the U.S. team at the Olympics last summer. He was also spectacular for Venezia last season, too, which is what put him on the radar in the first place.

Lyon will be in the Europa League this season, which presents Tessmann with a huge step up the ladder. The hope is that it will help vault him into the USMNT picture, too. With just two years until the World Cup, time is ticking, but Tessmann is at a club where he could rise very, very quickly.

It looks like he's... staying?

The rumors and links never got quite as loud as they did in January, when Reyna ultimately did move to Nottingham Forest on loan, leading to some belief that he could stay at Dortmund. Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl has now essentially confirmed as much.

"He has to accept his role, free himself from it," Kehl told BILD. "It was clear when we had the talks in the summer that Gio wanted to take on this role. That there will be enough games in which we need it. We know that he has insane abilities. He worked on himself, worked on stability, worked on radiance.

"This clever turning up between the lines and his goal threat - he has further developed this. So Gio can still become very important for us this season. There are no other thoughts. There is nothing on the table and I don't sense that the player wants to leave."

So it seems that Reyna will remain in Black and Yellow for one more window. Will he end up regretting it or will he carve out that role he's so desperate for?

American soccer hasn't seen too much of the midfielder as Hajduk Split has so often relied on him rather than releasing him for international duty. He could become even more prominent, though, as he has been linked with moves all summer.

The 20-year-old was linked to English giants like Arsenal, Aston Villa and West Ham earlier this year, while Bundesliga clubs have also reportedly been in the mix. It now looks like he could be off to Serie A newcomers Parma in a move that feels a bit more his level at the moment.

Despite only being promoted this season, Parma are balling in Serie A right now. If Pukstas does head there and make himself a valuable part of the team, a USMNT call-up will follow.

If he is ever going to make his big move away from Celtic, it probably has to happen soon.

Carter-Vickers has accomplished all he can with Scotland's giants, winning the league multiple times during a sustained period of dominance. The rumor mill has linked him with a move away, though, and, at 26, the time is right for him to take the leap.

He's recently been linked with Atalanta, Besiktas and Galatasaray, but, given his exploits in the Scottish league, there have always been English rumors, too. It's a tough call, especially when life is so good at Celtic, but it could be one he has to make.

Carter-Vickers is already starting USMNT duty with a leg up, having previously worked with Pochettino before at Tottenham. Now, he'll need to make the most of it, and that could include a move to a bigger stage.

If Carter-Vickers leaves Celtic, he could be quickly replaced by another American defender.

Reports indicate that Celtic are interested in Trusty, and it feels like that'll have to be contingent on Carter-Vickers' future. Trusty is currently with Sheffield United, where he was a regular last season as the Blades were relegated from the Premier League. Trusty showed well for himself, though, so there was no shame in his performances last season.

Would Celtic be the leap he needs? It could be argued. The Scottish giants win everything all the time and, for a young defender, it could be a fantastic springboard in a few years. The question is if Trusty would benefit more from taking another go at the Premier League in trying to help Sheffield get promoted. It's tough, right?

Either way, Trusty is one to watch as Celtic, or someone else, could swoop in late.
