THE BIGGER PICTURE
Established, young stars such as Yunus Musah, Folarin Balogun and Gio Reyna, could travel with the team to Paris, while three overage players will be allowed to take part in the competition too. However, the USMNT's priority remains the Copa America which they consider to be a bigger test before the home World Cup.
WHAT ALEXI LALAS SAID
Replying to an X user, the 53-year-old wrote: "For the US men’s Olympic team, all I want to come out of the Olympics this summer are a few players who show they can legitimately challenge for places on the full USMNT before 2026. That’s success."
