AFPU.S. international striker Ricardo Pepi signed a deal that will tie him to PSV until 2030, the club confirmed Sunday. Pepi had previously been the subject of a $26 million offer from West Ham, GOAL confirmed, although PSV declined that offer.
West Ham had been expected to come back with another bid, sources told GOAL, but that was before news broke of an untimely injury that Pepi suffered during this week's Champions League win over Liverpool.
PSV boss Peter Bosz indicated that Pepi will be out for some time, while reports say the club could add another striker before the transfer window shuts to help make up for the loss of Pepi in the attack.
AFPPepi's new deal will run through 2030, with the club honoring a previous offer to the American star despite his recent injury. The deal will see Pepi contracted to PSV longer than any other player currently at the club.
It likely won't be too much of a deterrent for clubs looking to sign the USMNT striker in the future, though. Pepi is drawing interest from some of the world's top leagues, but signing this deal will give both the striker and the club some security until that potential transfer does come to fruition.
GettyPepi has 17 goals in all competitions this season, with 11 coming in limited Eredivisie starts. Pepi is second in the league's Golden Boot race despite playing just under 700 minutes.
Getty ImagesPSV boss Peter Bosz said that he expects Pepi to be on the shelf for a significant period of time, saying at a news conference on Friday that recovery time is "not a matter of weeks."
The club currently sits atop the Eredivisie after Saturday's 3-3 draw with NEC Nijmegen, although that spot is shaky. They're just five points ahead of Ajax, who do have two games in hand.
