USMNT star Haji Wright hilariously called out by Coventry boss Mark Robins for not 'cutting his toenails' after VAR denied late FA Cup semi-final winner against Man Utd

Speaking after the cup tie with Manchester United at Wembley, Robins managed to make light of the situation, despite his team being on the cusp of one of the FA Cup's all-time great shocks.

After Coventry remarkably came back from 3-0 down to make it 3-3 when Wright converted a penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time, the Sky Blues then thought they had won the tie right at the end of extra-time. But Victor Torp's goal was ruled out when a VAR review concluded Wright was offside in the build-up. It was almost impossible to see due to the margin being so small - the tip of the American's boot was beyond Aaron Wan-Bissaka's.

"Had he cut his toenails we wouldn't be talking about penalties," Robins quipped. "Our performance will be spoken about for a long time. We are disappointed but we can't be too down about it. For the last hour of the game we performed like Manchester United and that's what I'm proud of. They thought they had won and, at 3-0 up, you can forgive them for that. They started to tire and we started to make them work. The offside might have an impact [on the shootout]. We were 20 seconds from being in the cup final and then suddenly we were in a penalty shootout."

Coventry may be out of the FA Cup, but there remains a very small chance they could return to Wembley again this season. Robins' team are eighth in the EFL Championship, two places outside the promotion play-offs. But with four games left and two games in hand on West Brom and Norwich, fifth and sixth respectively, they could still make up the nine-point gap with a near-perfect finish and if either drops points. Coventry have been out of the Premier League since 2001 after previously spending 34 consecutive years in the top flight.
