Iwobi may not have matched previous top-notch performances in an Everton shirt in Saturday’s turnaround win at Southampton, but the Nigerian was instrumental to the Toffees’ win, nonetheless.The ex-Arsenal man assisted the winning goal — scored by Dwight McNeil — to register his third assist of the 2022-23 campaign.Iwobi has now outdone his final assists tally and previous best for Everton (two assists in 2020-21 and 2021-22) and will back himself to match his six assists from his final season at Arsenal (six).Scoring twice was also a collector’s item for Frank Lampard’s men, who had not netted more than one goal in eight matches in all competitions preceding Saturday.

Observers will have noticed Aribo scored his second Premier League goal for Southampton before Everton rallied to turn the game on its head.But it is now striking that the ex-Rangers midfielder’s strikes this season have come when he has been deployed in his best position—one of the two number 10s in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s 4-2-2-2.Having been moved around and played in a plethora of roles in 2022-23, the Nigeria international will hope for regular game time in his favourable position going forward.

Luciano Spalletti had thrown down the gauntlet to Zambo Anguissa last season, calling on the Cameroon star to score more goals and contribute more assists.The midfielder looks to have taken the tactician’s advice on board, scoring a brace in the weekend’s 3-1 victory over Torino to keep Napoli top of Serie A.Zambo Anguissa has now contributed to four goals (two goals, two assists), already outdoing last term’s tally (two assists) after eight game weeks.

An exasperating outing for Salah saw him miss two clear-cut opportunities in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with a fearless Brighton as the Reds dropped even more points this season.Strikingly, the Egyptian has now gone four Premier League games at Anfield without scoring in 22-23, firing blanks against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Newcastle United and the Seagulls.This sees Salah match an unwanted Liverpool record from 2020-21, where he also went four league matches without scoring on home turf before netting against Manchester City.The Citizens are the next visitors to Anfield on October 16, and it will be interesting to see if the Reds’ marksman ends this unpleasant streak or goes five Premier League games on the trot without scoring at Anfield for the first time.
