'The town didn't feel great' - Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney 'don't fully understand' impact they've had on Wrexham as Jordan Davies admits he's 'bored of thanking' Hollywood owners

Since Reynolds and McElhenney took over the Red Dragons in February 2021, the club have secured two promotions from the National League to League One. But on top of their on-field success, the North American duo have been behind a huge surge in Wrexham tourism, businesses have flocked to the area, and they are funding local initiatives such as Parks and Wrex - a community space in the city centre. Now, midfielder Davies has sung their praises once again.

He told The Leader: “I almost get bored of saying thank you to Rob and Ryan. Obviously they understand but I don’t think they fully understand how much it has done for everyone. Look at the businesses and other stuff, it is amazing. The town has never been better in my opinion and that’s all thanks to Rob and Ryan. When the football was going bad, the town didn’t feel great and now the football has picked up, the town has really picked up so I am very proud.”

Since their arrival, Reynolds and McElhenney have transformed this formerly lowly club into one of the most talked about footballing stories with a global presence, thanks in no small part to their Welcome to Wrexham documentary. Their extra publicity has done wonders for the club and area - which officially became a city as part of the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Under the Hollywood duo, it seems the sky is the limit for Wrexham.

While preparations for life in League One are already underway, with the players returning for pre-season next month, McElhenney is leading the charge to turn the former Hippodrome cinema site into a vibrant public space, in honour of Reynolds, in the heart of Wrexham.
