  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Teams across the world have been strengthening their squads with comings and goings over the summer window, with more than 12,000 deals being orchestrated in men's and women's football, a record high. There were around 11,000 international transfers in the men's game, while over 1,125 - a 31.8 per cent increase on last year - players were traded in the women's game.

    It was also the second-highest spending window in history, with men's teams spending a whopping £5 billion (6.46bn) in total. Women's teams invested a collective £5 million ($6.8m), which is more than twice the sum spent in the same period last year.

    Julian Alvarez's £82 million ($107m) transfer from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid was the most expensive summer move this year, followed by Dominic Solanke's £65m ($83m) switch to Tottenham from Bournemouth.

    Meanwhile, Liverpool Women splashed out to sign Canada's Olivia Smith from Sporting CP, while they sold Missy Bo Kearns to Aston Villa. Furthermore, Arsenal paid a large fee to bring Daphne van Domselaar in from Villa.
