Revealed: Kylian Mbappe 'reached verbal agreement' to join Liverpool with Real Madrid clause included in deal - but PSG rejected staggering €200m transfer bid

In June, Mbappe finally got his dream move to Real Madrid in a blockbuster deal worth an estimated €15m (£13m/$16m) to €20m (£17m/$22m) per year. But according to L'Equipe, at one point the France forward came close to joining Liverpool instead. Back in 2022, he reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Premier League club after they made a €200m (£169m/$221m) bid for his services.

Mbappe recently admitted he was not in an 'easy situation' at PSG, where there was constant speculation around his future at the club. It's understood that Mbappe's team asked PSG to let him depart before the start of the 2022-23 season, at which point the Parisian giants received two bids. One was from Real Madrid, and the other from Liverpool. But when PSG asked the Premier League outfit to double their offer, the Reds promptly dropped out of the race for Mbappe, despite there reputedly being a 'verbal agreement' in place.

Liverpool's interest in Mbappe didn't end when he committed his future to PSG in 2022. Earlier this year, the Premier League giants were cited as the 'most credible and dangerous candidate' looking for his signature, despite continued interest from Real Madrid, who eventually got their man.

The Liverpool rumours are old news for Mbappe, who has thrown himself into life at the Bernabeu with two goals in his first four league games for Los Blancos. He went goalless in the first three of those matches, causing one club source to label his start to Madrid life as not 'idyllic'. They added: "He has to find his place. And he is finding it." Next up, Mbappe's side face a trip to Real Sociedad in La Liga.
