Ex-Wrexham man set to retire! Released star to pull curtain down on impressive career after playing key role in Ryan Reynolds' and Rob McElhenney's journey up the Football League

According to the Daily Record, Hibs had held talks with Fletcher over a move which would have seen him return to the club where he began his professional career. Emerging through the youth system in 2004, the forward went on to score 52 goals in 189 appearances for Hibs before joining Burnley in 2009.

However the report states that after mulling over whether to return to Easter Road, Fletcher now looks set to turn down Hibs’ advances in favour of hanging up his boots. The former Wolves and Sunderland man had thought about retiring from football after departing Dundee United two years ago, before going on to create history with Wrexham.

In his two seasons at the SToK Cae Ras, Fletcher scored 16 goals in 73 league games as Wrexham secured successive promotions from League Two in 2023-24 and then League One in 2024-25, before being released in the summer.

Wrexham are back in action when they travel to Norwich City in the Championship on Saturday afternoon. Phil Parkinson’s side have endured a difficult start to life in the second tier of English football, winning just one of their opening five league games. Meanwhile Hibs travel to struggling Rangers in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup on the same day.
