Scotland were reduced to 10 men after Porteous picked a red card following his poor tackle on Germany skipper Ilkay Gundogan. The Watford defender replaced Grant Hanley in the starting lineup, who had started in the team's 2-2 draw in their final friendly game against Finland last week.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

The decision to bring in Porteous in place of Hanley did not go down well with the fans who mocked the 25-year-old on social media.

A Rangers fan named H.E. Pennypacker took to X to slam Porteous' selection as they wrote: "Swapping Grant Hanley for Ryan Porteous is like changing your shirt when you’ve sh*t your trousers.

A fan named Kevin Peebles was left fuming after Porteous' sending off, writing: "I never want to see Ryan Porteous in a Scotland shirt ever again. Zero understanding of the responsibility."

A handle named The WALT Podcast took a dig at the player's club Watford as they wrote: "You can take the man out of Watford, but you can’t take the sh*teness out of the man. Ryan Porteous. I hope you enjoyed your 44 minutes of the Euros."

A user named Cautious Dave furiously claimed that Porteous should not be allowed to wear the Scotland shirt again as they wrote: "Ryan Porteous should never play for Scotland again. Not from any angry reaction. More about if you think you can get away with that challenge in the box at the International level with VAR then you simply aren’t smart enough at that level. The guy’s 25."
