What next for Raheem Sterling? Chelsea outcast not interested in Saudi Arabia or MLS moves despite prospect of not playing for four months before January window opens

While overseas markets remain open, Sterling’s stance is unwavering; his focus is on staying in England, preferably in London, where he had hoped to secure a switch before deadline day. Chelsea explored possible exits for him, but no deal materialised, as reported by The Standard. 

Sterling now finds himself stuck in Chelsea’s dreaded 'bomb squad', the group of unwanted players pushed out of first-team contention. Alongside him in exile are names like Axel Disasi, who also failed to seal a move before the transfer window shut. With head coach Enzo Maresca unlikely to reintegrate him, Sterling’s next four months will be spent in limbo, training on the fringes until the market reopens in January.

Sterling's preference for remaining in London led to talks with Fulham and consideration from West Ham. However, neither club pushed forward with a late bid, leaving Sterling stranded at Stamford Bridge for the time being. One radical option is for Chelsea to rip up Sterling’s contract, though reports suggest this is an unlikely outcome given the financial hit involved.

Sterling still believes he has plenty to offer Thomas Tuchel's England side and will push for a spot in the Three Lions squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup. Come January, a London move remains his top priority. Whether Fulham, West Ham, or another capital club take the gamble remains to be seen.
