    WHAT PHIL PARKINSON SAID

He told BBC Sport: “At the moment, we have a lot of work to do in terms of our recruitment to make us competitive. Every season you have to start with the aim of being at the top. I liaise with the owners all the time about what I feel we need to be competitive. We are not quite there yet. The squad is good but we are going into a top league.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham - who released eight players at the end of last season - are aiming to create history by becoming the first team in the top five steps of the English football pyramid to achieve a third-straight promotion. After winning the National League and securing automatic promotion from League Two, Parkinson's side have their sights set on reaching the Championship at the first time of asking.
