'I'd love it!' - Pep Guardiola looking forward to having dinner with Jurgen Klopp when he leaves Liverpool and reveals reason why they have not socialised before

While they have had a fierce rivalry on the pitch beginning with their spells in charge of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, Klopp and Guardiola have always spoken of their respect for each other. However, they have not had the chance to catch up properly away from the gaze of the public.

"Sometimes in the corridor before the press conference but when we were honoured to get in the Hall of Fame we spent time with families but in terms of lunch or dinners, it never happened," Guardiola said. "We have to decide who pays, that's why we didn't do it. I think it's going to happen sooner or later, I would love it."

Guardiola will take on Klopp for the last time in the Premier League when City visit Liverpool on Sunday in a potential title showdown. The Merseysiders lead the standings by one point, with City in second and Arsenal a point behind the champions in third.

Sunday will be the 30th time Klopp has faced Guardiola. Klopp is the coach who has beaten him on the most occasions (12) and the only coach who has played Guardiola four or more times and beaten him more than he has lost to him.

City will be hoping to end a 21-year wait to beat Liverpool at Anfield with fans in the stadium. Their only victory away to the Reds since 2003 was in the 2020-21 campaign, when Anfield had to be kept empty due to coronavirus restrictions.
