Operation Luis Diaz! Barcelona need one big sale to sign Liverpool star as La Liga champions aim to make sure they can register new signings

Barcelona hopes to sign Diaz in this summer transfer window but will have to manage their accounts and comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations before initiating talks with the Merseyside club. As per Mundo Deportivo, the Liga club will need to offload players, and potentially sell a notable one, to adhere to the rules.

Under the current La Liga laws, the club will have to sell a high-value player to sign and register Diaz. With the sale of Jean-Clair Todibo to West Ham United for €14 million (£12m/$16m), and Como making Alex Valle's move permanent by triggering a €6m purchase option, the club aims to act in accordance with the one-in-one-out policy.

In addition to these measures, Barca has sell-on clauses in the contracts of players they have sold to other clubs. Francisco Trincao of Benfica, Oscar Mingueza of Celta Vigo and Mika Marmol of Las Palmas all have a 50 per cent sell-on clause in their respective contracts. Moreover, the club can look to offload players who are no longer in coach Hansi Flick's plans. As the complexities deepen, the Blaugrana can try to sort other areas of the team, with Flick reportedly interested in Ivan Perisic, whom he worked with during his time at Bayern Munich. Left-back Gerard Martin has also been linked with a move, though he has dismissed such talk.

Barcelona started their operations on a good note, having saved €20m (£17m/$23m) after Clement Lenglet's move to Atletico Madrid. They also hope to sell Ansu Fati in the near future, which should ensure the club has no issues when registering the much-anticipated Joan Garcia from Espanyol.
