Per <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5687568/2024/08/07/liverpool-zubimendi-agree-real-sociedad-transfer/" target="_blank">The Athletic</a>, Sociedad are expecting Zubimendi to agree to a move to Liverpool, having previously <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/arsenal-rejected-martin-zubimendi-mikel-arteta-summer-transfer/blt47fe0e36f06a30d2" target="_blank">rejected the chance to leave amid interest from Arsenal and Barcelona</a>. The Reds have targeted the Spain international to solve their lack of depth in the No.6 position but the deal is somewhat complicated by the need to pay his €60m (£52m/$63m) release clause in full.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite the complication regarding payment structure, the report states that Sociedad will allow Zubimendi to move if he asks to do so. Liverpool are yet to sign a player this summer and he would become Arne Slot's first acquisition as manager.

Zubimendi played in two games at Euro 2024: Spain's final group game and the final, when he came on as a substitute for the injured Rodri at half-time.
