United had a number of bids for the 22-year-old rejected by Everton earlier this summer, with the Red Devils' offers of £43 million ($55m) and £50m ($65m) well short of the Toffees' £80m ($104m) valuation. Despite having less Premier League experience and being several years his junior, Erik ten Hag's side spent £52m ($68m) on 18-year-old Yoro. Now, United could try and resurrect the deal for the England man and here's why.

According to The Telegraph, United's bid to sign Branthwaite may be boosted by the collapse of Everton's proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group. American billionaire Dan Friedkin's decision to pull the plug has created more financial uncertainty at Goodison Park, therefore, the Red Devils may return with an improved, final offer for the 6'5 centre-back. Whether that is considered or not remains to be seen.

The report adds United have no intention of meeting Everton's valuation of Branthwaite and are unlikely to go any higher than £55m ($71m). Moreover, they may yet try and secure the services of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.

In order for United to continue their summer spending spree, following the arrivals of striker Joshua Zirkzee for £36m ($46m) and Yoro, Ten Hag's side are open to offers for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Scott McTominay - on top of selling academy product Mason Greenwood to Marseille.
