Man Utd linked with shock move for Chelsea star as manager Erik ten Hag eyes competition for Luke Shaw

Per the Daily Mail, United are eyeing a move for Chelsea and England defender Ben Chilwell as they look to bolster their backline. After finalising a deal for Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee, the club will now hold a recruitment meeting where they will discuss other deals for the ongoing summer transfer window.

The club have been in talks to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, while they will consider placing a second bid for Everton centre defender Jarrad Branthwaite. They are also looking for competition for Luke Shaw in the left-back position and therefore could go after Chilwell.

The Telegraph reported last week that Chilwell could see himself surplus to Enzo Maresca's needs this summer as the new Blues boss is looking for players who can play in multiple roles.

The Red Devils returned for pre-season on Monday before they jet off to the US where they will play friendly matches against clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Betis.
