Per The Sun, Sporting are ready to demand in excess of Trincao's £50m ($65m) release clause because 50% of the winger's next transfer fee is owed to Barcelona. Sporting are said to be determined to recoup £35m ($45m) for the ex-Wolves star, but that would mean United paying a £70m ($90m) fee, as Ruben Amorim seeks to rejig his attack.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Trincao has a contract until 2026 so United could theoretically play a waiting game, if the Portugal international were willing to run his deal down. He has emerged as a star during his time in Portugal, and is enjoying a remarkable run of form; he has scored eight goals and laid on 12 assists in 26 league games this season. Sporting do not want to sell, as they are also aware they may lose striker Viktor Gyokeres.
