'What a star' - Man City midfielder Jack Grealish branded a 'total gentleman' after putting £500 behind the bar to pay for pints on night out in Newcastle

According to the Daily Mail, Grealish visited the North Biddick Social Club in Washington on Sunday to visit a friend. The 29-year-old reportedly chatted to locals and paid for £500 worth of drinks, which led to one pub-goer to say he can come back "any time".

One local said: "Jack was a total gentleman and £500 is enough to keep the whole bar in pints for a good few hours. What a star he was, he can come back any time."

Another said: "He was with a couple of friends who live nearby and I think they just fancied a quiet pint in a place where Jack wasn't going to get any hassle. Word spread very quickly though and people started to arrived from all over to see him, it's such an unexpected place to see a big football star. He was a really, really nice guy. Nothing was too much trouble for him, he sat and chatted with the locals and was happy to pose for pictures. But when he paid for everyone's drinks that was just amazing, he didn't need to do it but he did and it showed a lot of class and generosity. He'll definitely be welcome back if he ever wants to come down again."

Grealish has been falling down the pecking order at City for some time now, with manager Pep Guardiola, pundits, and fans alike criticising his performances. But outside of former team Aston Villa, it seems the England international - who headed into Newcastle later on Sunday - is still a popular figure and acts like this will only enhance that.

Grealish will hope to get more game time in City's trip to high-flying Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday.
