Liverpool’s stance on VAR revealed after Wolves sensationally call on Premier League to scrap technology

Wolves' submission will be subject to a vote at the annual general meeting between England's top-flight clubs on June 6. According to the PA news agency, Liverpool are set to show their support for VAR although will suggest that improvements have to be made.

It has been widely reported that Premier League clubs look set to back the continued use of VAR. Two unnamed clubs in the division have also indicated their support for the technology to PA, while Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is in favour of ironing out flaws in the system. The Dutchman said: “I don’t think there is a way back. So, in principle it makes the football more fair but there are some problems. I think we have to find solutions for those problems, so we have to make improvements.”

Liverpool were on the receiving end of the most controversial VAR decision in Premier League history when Luis Diaz's goal against Tottenham was wrongly disallowed for offside. A mistake in communication between on-field referee Simon Hooper and Darren England on VAR caused chaos back in October.

While VAR is likely to continue in the top flight, there is no desire among Championship clubs for the technology to be introduced. So the focus will be on improving the Premier League model rather than extending the video replay influence, with semi-automated offside decisions set to come in which should speed up the whole process.
