Liverpool have been warned! Real Madrid notify Reds of plan to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in free transfer next summer

Liverpool are actively working to secure a contract extension for Alexander-Arnold, whose deal, along with those of captain Virgil van Dijk and forward Mohamed Salah, expires at the end of the season. The club’s management hopes to convince the right-back to remain with the Reds, despite growing speculation surrounding his potential departure.

According to talkSPORT, Madrid have already informed the Reds of their intent to pursue Alexander-Arnold as a free agent. While the Spanish club are not legally required to declare their interest - since Alexander-Arnold will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January - it is understood that they aim to handle the situation with respect to Liverpool.

Madrid’s need for a long-term replacement at right-back has intensified following Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury earlier this month. The 32-year-old, a six-time Champions League winner, is sidelined indefinitely, leaving them without a natural right-back option. This situation has seemingly fast-tracked Madrid’s succession planning for Carvajal, with Alexander-Arnold emerging as their preferred target.

As contract talks continue, Alexander-Arnold is also working his way back to full fitness following a hamstring injury. Although he missed Liverpool’s midweek Champions League rematch with Madrid, he is expected to return for Sunday’s crucial Premier League showdown against Manchester City.
