Liverpool ready to offload three unwanted stars in bid to fund blockbuster £150m offer for Newcastle ace Alexander Isak

The Premier League champions are still interested in Isak to boost their forward line, even with last week's £79 million ($106m) capture of Hugo Ekitike. Liverpool have spent £270m ($361m) on six new signings without fear of breaching financial regulations. Player sales would be required to keep recruiting, but ESPN explains that raising £80-100m ($107-134m) by selling Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa would create the budget needed to spend up to £150m ($201m) on Isak - still without risk of PSR trouble.

A £150m approach for Isak, meeting Newcastle's reported asking price, would take Liverpool spending for the summer to around £430m ($575m) and break the world record set by Chelsea in 2023 for the biggest splurge in a single transfer window - currently £404m ($540m at today's rate). Such investment in the squad has been made possible by increased revenue and prize money, combined with minimal spending last summer, to ensure that the PSR ceiling is super high. There is also an expectation that after a summer in which Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Hugo Ekitike, Armin Pecsi, and potentially Isak, have joined the club, major spending next year isn't required.

Liverpool had been interested in Isak earlier in the transfer window, but moved quickly to land Ekitike when it seemed that Newcastle were completely closed off to selling the Swede. But things dramatically changed when Isak informed the Magpies of his desire to explore a transfer.

If the Reds can get the money together from the sales of the aforementioned trio - Nunez, Elliott, Chiesa - and Newcastle are willing to accept £150m, there's a high possibility that Isak will be a Liverpool player come the transfer deadline. Recent reports have claimed that Nunez is a target for Al-Hilal, while Elliott is linked with several clubs, including West Ham and RB Leipzig. Atalanta has been touted as a destination for Chiesa.
